Day on the Reservoir

Finally saw the Flaming Gorge from a boat. This 91 mile long reservoir created in the early 1960's by damming the Green River, is a spectacular mind-boggling example of Mother Nature's history. Layers of once hidden rock have been exposed during millions of years of earthly activities known as glaciers, faults, earthquakes, erosion.... Just looking at each exposed layer causes one to wonder just how many years has our planet survived? Previous fossils, dinosaur bones, sandstone, slate are all exposed in various layers visible on both edges of the gorge. Wildlife runs free with little notice of the few boaters experiencing the awe and beauty of this little-known area.
The recreation was amazing as well. Once into a small rocky cove, nearly every cast I made returned a small mouth bass or a little brown trout. All were released back to the calm waters to live another day in their peaceful homes. It was enjoyable with a delightful captain who voluntarily took me on his bass boat for the day. Conversation was great and just sharing the beauty with someone who knows it well and truly appreciates the man-made wonder made for a memorable day. Thank you Robbe!
