So this month marks 2 years of not being in a big-time corporate position? Do I miss it? Just the money, nothing else. Still stay in touch with the authentic people I met along the way, but do not miss performance reviews, unnecessary deadlines, processes that are not logical.


As an example: This past fall I wanted part time seasonal work. So I applied online and was offered, online, a driver helper position with UPS. WOW! I have always held them with such high regard, I was honored to say "I am going to help deliver packages this Christmas." But that only happened for 8 hours! Over two days! Their process for hiring 300,000 seasonal workers may have worked, but the poor millennial responsible for actually scheduling the helpers and drivers was under qualified, overwhelmed and useless. Thankfully, last week UPS showed some interest by sending out an "experience" survey. And true to form, I told the truth.


Now here I am preparing for my first in person part of the Census 2020 position. Yep, applied online back in early December for a 2nd shift position here in Phoenix to be a Data Clerk (I think I can do this!) I received an email last week that said to notify them by 1/15 if I wanted to be considered, or to accept the tentative offer. Fingerprinting is involved, as is paperwork, so I started calling yesterday morning, as requested by the email, to set up the appointment. Finally left a voice message. And then finally got through. I set up the appointment for today, Tuesday, at 11:00am. However.... at 7:30am I just checked my email and that confirmation says my appointment is at 08:00am this morning. Obviously, with only 30 minutes to go, will not be there at that time... I will be there at 11:00am.


Now I know the "economy is good" and unemployment is low, but for any organization hiring 500,000 people, or even 400, there needs to be a much better system, or much better people creating and running it. My experiences are just two, however, I bet if you ask, there are thousands of screwed up processes, just in the application and hiring phases of this booming economy. But alas, not my job to worry about it. It is only part time work for me....for a very good reason!


This kind of disorganization raises my blood pressure, makes my stomach curl and sends irrational popping nerves throughout my system! LOL So, I will go in to the Census this morning with an optimistic eye. If this doesn't work, look out... I will be making my own videos with suggestions on a whole bunch of topics... maybe even suggestions for big hiring programs! LOL
