Started Tuesday, actually. Drove the truck to Smitty's Custom Welding so they could spend all day working on the tow package. Required: Total replacement of the drive shaft so the rear wheels can roll freely while being towed! Base plate behind the front grill. Then rigging for lights, air (to control truck brakes) and safety harness.
Yesterday, got up at 5am and disconnected from park and drove 40+ miles to drop SueCanDo off so she could get fitted for air tank, light package, safety harness and tow bar. Then it rained.. and rained.. and rained so they couldn't get SueCanDo finished. But the truck was drivable, so came back to my brother / SIL place (thank GOODNESS they let me and Isabella stay here!).
Today, got a call at 10am they wee finished! Now to connect the SueCanDo to the truck!
Well - that was the initial plan. Seems the truck was too low, so needed a hitch extender. Then the training for hooking it all up and making the truck towable began. Four times later, I had all my notes and pictures ready! BUT - the brakes lights worked, no turn signals. Seems there is a small controller box by the light socket that was bad.. fortunately they had one in stock and replaced that (on SueCanDo). Hooray! All lights working.
But - they told me of an "air leak". Since I have a floating rig (OK air makes the suspension ride better than a tractor in simple terms), I need air. And rig air controls towed vehicle brakes. Not a problem if you just go. But if you have a lot of stop/go, I will lose air. So made an appointment for Tuesday to take it back in to figure out where the leak is (for you RV'ers it is not the ball). OK - no problem.
Left there, drove to "Buck-He's (darn auto spell check won't let me spell it correctly!!!!!!!) and filled up. I only needed a half a tank and that was 58 gallons or $150 - then the credit card stopped! LOL Oh how automation controls our life. Thankfully it is nearly full now. Drove down the road, made a TX U-turn (legal under the interstates) to Camping World where I did the worst parking job EVER! I don't care - it is the middle of the day and I am a Female Student Driver, after all. Purchased two locking pins so no one walks off with my new tow bar with the hitch extender!
Then missed the entrance to the toll road - twice. Once on the toll road, discovered I can only go 55mph when towing my truck or we "sway" - a nice little dance. Made it all the way back to Rayford Crossing RV Resort. Next step? Disconnect the truck and reconnect the drive shaft so it works like it is supposed to. In 94 degree heat, it took a few minutes, but success!
Drove SueCanDo back to my space and went to plug it in. Oh no.. my electrical
